Prattville Christian Academy offers students in grades 4-8 the opportunity to compete academically through nationally recognized Science Olympiad competitions. Science Olympiad is a team competition in which students compete in events with scientific disciplines, including earth science, biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering. Like any athletic competition, Science Olympiad requires a commitment from the students, preparation before a competition as well as coaching and practice throughout the year.
Science Olympiad consists of teams with 15 students competing together to take tests and construct projects in 23 different events; much like an academic track meet. A portion of the events are rotated each year to reflect the ever-changing nature of the scientific disciplines. By combining events from varied disciplines, Science Olympiad encourages all types of students to participate.
With all of the scientific disciplines, an emphasis is placed on hands-on and group participation. In many of today’s careers, including most scientific jobs, teamwork is a required skill. Science Olympiad encourages teamwork by designing events that require group learning.
