 In Athletics

The Lady Panthers competed in the Elmore County High School Block Party Volleyball Tournament this past weekend. After hard work and determination, they ended the weekend with a 6-0 sweep as tournament champions. The Lady Panthers defeated Tallassee High School and Benjamin Russell High School twice, Stanhope Elmore High School once and Alabama Christian Academy for the championship.

During the tournament, several players made their mark! Lennon McAnnally had 16 aces, one assist, 43 kills, two blocks and 32 digs, earning her a nomination by the Montgomery Advertiser as one of the top high school volleyball players for the week. Victoria Wheeler and Jacey Haynes were also nominated, and among the honorable mentions were Juliana Lawrence and Jamie Johnson.

When asked about the team’s success, Kaylon Cantrell, PCA’s head volleyball coach, said “these girls showed real grit today in a couple of great come from behind, hard-fought victories! They remained mentally tough and focused throughout the day, not dropping a single set. I’m really proud of them for not letting up and finishing the day strong; it definitely shows what we’re capable of.”
