 In School News

PCA senior Ethan Morris was named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program (NMSP). The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic scholarship competition for recognition and scholarships administered by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Nearly 34,000 Commended Students nationwide are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. These students rank among the top five percent of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

In addition to his academic achievements, Ethan is actively involved in various organizations on campus, including National Honor Society, Speech and Debate, and PCA’s school newspaper, the Panther Progress. He spent the previous two summers pursuing his passion for writing as a national youth correspondent at the Washington Journalism and Media Conference and as a student at the prestigious Rhodes Summer Writing Institute.

“Ethan is an exceptional student,” said Katie Furr, upper school principal. “Not only is he focused on the academic aspects of his career as a student, but he is also a strong servant leader. Ethan was given the opportunity to move and attend a school in Washington D.C. but chose to stay at PCA. We are so thankful he made that choice and truly look forward to seeing what his bright future holds.”
